about
Legacy Café is more than a restaurant it’s a story of faith, resilience, and community that began in May 1985 with Desmond and Marjorie Brown. Leaving behind stable careers in New York, they came to Orlando with a dream: to bring the flavors of their Jamaican roots to a new home. By 1986, their vision took shape as D & M West Indian Food and Deli, a bold venture in the heart of downtown. Their little corner shop quickly became a gathering place, offering both authentic Caribbean staples and a sense of belonging in a changing city.
For nearly four decades, the Browns’ entrepreneurial spirit has carried through three generations. What began as a small family-owned deli grew into a legacy passed to their son, and now lives on through their granddaughter, Brittney. Each generation has built upon the foundation of hard work, hope, and heart expanding the vision from a neighborhood store into a movement that feeds both people and purpose.
Today, Legacy Café stands as a vibrant hub for food, fellowship, and empowerment. Through our kitchen and catering services, we continue to nourish our community, but our mission has grown far beyond meals. With the launch of the Plated Purpose Culinary Program, Legacy Café now equips young people with real-world skills that prepare them to thrive in the workforce. Students gain not only hands-on culinary training, but also financial opportunities, mentorship, and the confidence to dream bigger. Every plate served represents a paycheck in a student’s pocket and an investment back into the neighborhood.
Through initiatives like Legacy Café Cares from outreach meals to holiday food sponsorships we carry forward the same heart that inspired Desmond and Marjorie back in 1985: a belief that business is not just about profit, but about people.
Our legacy is simple: we feed hearts and build community, one plate and one generation at a time.
